Hearing record
Day 125
Day 125, 24 June 2026. Suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi returned to the Madlanga Commission to answer the previous day's evidence from 'Witness K', the anonymous JMPD inspector who said he masterminded the alleged R14.9 million Killarney precious-stones theft. Mkhwanazi requested time to consult his legal team and declined to respond to the precious-stones claims, saying he had been preparing for his disciplinary hearing and had not studied her transcripts. He insisted the Killarney operation was a legitimate joint EMPD/JMPD seizure rather than a theft. The commission challenged a contradiction: he had denied knowing Witness K in his 15 April 2026 testimony but now confirmed he knows her, prompting Commissioner Sandile Khumalo to put it to him that he was either untruthful then or untruthful now. All allegations are untested; he denies wrongdoing and is presumed innocent.
