Hearing record
Day 129
Day 129, 30 June 2026. MK Party Member of Parliament Vusi Shongwe testified before the Madlanga Commission that, as he pressed for suspended SAPS Crime Intelligence boss Major-General Feroz Khan to account before Parliament's ad hoc committee on policing, Khan and his alleged associates tried to buy his silence with a R10 million bribe. Shongwe said that on 8 March 2026 men he identified as Khan's associates, Yusuf Kajee and a man known only as Imran, arranged a video call from a Durban security firm, dRK Tactical, at which a tearful Khan said 'you are suffocating me' and asked why he was after him. He testified he was offered a choice of a R2 million Checkers security tender or R10 million in cash, plus two bulletproof BMWs with tinted windows, to be handed over in Sandton on 10 March - which he declined, reporting it to former president Jacob Zuma and then to the committee and the commission. Shongwe also told the commission that EFF leader Julius Malema was the most vocal in opposing Khan being called to testify before the ad hoc committee. All allegations are untested; Khan and Malema are presumed innocent and have not answered the claims before the commission.
